STAR WARS: Fett's Revenge

To get to the point, this blog has a pretty good idea what the Star Wars 1st Spin-Off movie in-between the new episodes will be about. Bear in mind, there's no inside info behind it, just putting two and two together. It's a story-telling exercise.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so...

Boba Fett Vs Mace Windu!

But you're probably thinking: "Mace died in Episode 3, hello???"

Fair point...

The facts:

1. In the post Episode 3 era, George Lucas was planning a live action Star Wars series that was abandoned for budget reasons. It was rumored to be about Boba Fett.

2. The first Disney spin-off will be about a secondary character other than the main cast, again rumored to be Boba Fett.

So it appears, with Disney's budget potential, the old series story-line is most likely being ressurected, adapted for a feature film.

Now, what does any story require most? Conflict. If Boba Fett is to be the hero, who would be the ideal demon to haunt him? Someone with whom the young bounty hunter has unfinissed business, a score to settle. Top guess: his father's killer, Mace Windu.

"YEAH, BUT MACE IS DEAD ALREADY!"

What is the "throw out of the window" device? A story-telling method to "kill" a character briefly. Not showing the actual death, but instead putting a hero in great torture so it appears as though there's no way he lived through all that, is a trick to set up a surprise situation later on. It's why in Episode 3 the Emperor shot Mace Windu with lightning out of the window, rather than decapitate him.

"Star Wars isn't splatter, you moron! Decapitations are a no no!"

Tell that to this guy...

What's another story-telling device? Foreshadowing. In Episode 2 Mace Windu decapitates Jango Fett, Boba's father. Then the young Boba holds, in a quite dramatic scene, the helmet of his father against his forehead.

So Lucas had one revenge-promising scene that, so far, lead nowhere and a very anti-cinematic play-out in an all-important murder, the one where Anakin finally succumbs to the dark side. Why? To establish an unfinished sub-plot.

Consider Samuel Jackson. In the abandoned series plan, he probably would have made a guest star appearance for a climactic showdown ending in the first finale. Season finales can justify the budget for top star guest actors. Samuel Jackson’s age was and keeps getting ideal to portray an older Mace Windu.

Yet if Samuel Jackson were announced to be in the Star Wars spin-off, everyone would know what it'd be about.

Probably, his participation will be a surprise till the very end.
